Review of Frank (2014) by Phillip D — 30 Jan 2015
Easily one of the stranger movies you will see this year, Frank is a dark comedy that masks a really complete critique of the music and entertainment industry as a whole. Although the reflection on the nature of entertainment has been a popular theme this year, Frank, like Birdman, brings something new to the table in the form of the plastic headed Fassbender, whose character offers a new dimension to the movie.
Frank pulls no punches, taking shots at the burgeoning indie music factory while also critiquing the established music industry that is its polar opposite. In the end, Frank speaks to the power of unique ideas, of being who you are and the maintenance of creative identity in a world that seeks to eliminate it.
It is a powerful critique supported by an excellent cast, the strangest premise in a long time and a dry, witty humor that accentuates the movie nicely.
