Review of Frank (2014) by Paul A — 26 Nov 2015
This was a weird movie for sure, and it gets even more weird as it goes. But I give it points for originality and (surprisingly) believability. There is often a thin line between artistry and insanity - this film is all about that.
The protagonist, Jon (Domnall Gleeson - very earnest and authentic) finds himself whisked away from his desk job to be the keyboard player in a band where all the players are certifiably crazy and the music they play appeals to mostly just them.
They don't seem to care whether they become popular, and there isn't much of a plan - until Jon pulls them into the limelight. Of course much of the theme centers around the fact that the band leader wears a big fake head at all times.
Really the whole movie is about craziness - this is where all the funny moments come from. But the deeper message comes from the notion, when everyone in your sphere is just as crazy what is the value in sanity?
