Review of Frances Ha (2013) by Dan L — 01 Sep 2016
I forgot how sad this movie was. I watched it a second time because it left such an impression on me when it first came out six months ago that I had to see it again. "Frances Ha" tells the story of a 27 year old girl living in New York who's trying to find a life for herself.
She wants to be a professional dancer but that's not working out. She's readjusting. The whole movie takes place in this in-between time in her life when she's failed as a dancer and struggles to hold on to her identity and low-paying job.
Greta Gerwig, the star, is incredible here. She conveys a self-doubt and raw neediness that make her character incredibly memorable. Who knows, maybe six months from now I'll be ready to watch it again.
