Review of Frailty (2012) by Alice S — 08 Nov 2009
The ending was somewhat disappointing, but otherwise a remarkable film. Not so much a horror movie, in my oppinion, as a psychological thriller... until it started to look sf.
We seem to deal with a religious dementia of a father (after having several visions, he starts killing people he believes that are demons) and it's the relationship between him and his two boys which interests us in the first place. Adam, the youngest, who seems to also be the most inocent of the two children, is surprisingly attracted to his father's delusion. Fenton, on the other hand, is the voice of reason, fighting his father and eventually killing him.
But the ending seems to be trying to prove that Fenton was wrong and Adam was right. The idea is insulting our intelligence, but is kinda funny, because Adam is having a really good time mocking the law and order institutions and I suppose that's part of God's plan, too.
