Review of Frailty (2012) by Jc S — 23 Nov 2009
Frailty is one of the most original and crazy films I have ever seen. The story was brilliantly written. Even the direction done by normally actor Bill Paxton was really good. I'd say all of the performances are pretty solid especially from Bill Paxton and the boy who played Fenton.
Frailty is about a man who has a vision from God who tells him that he needs to destroy demons that are in the form of humans and his one son totally believes him while his other thinks hes a total whack job.
It is very disturbing not only because of the relentless violence, but the sheer fact that there are kids involved in this series of murders. That's what gets and scares you deep inside. The film is narrated by Matthew McConaughey who is Fenton as an adult who is telling an FBI agent everything he knows.
The real story of the film is seen in flashback. If I recall, this is an independent film. This is one of the most original films ever. From the sort of synopsis I gave earlier you can kind of tell. In a way, it kind of reminded me of The Usual Suspects.
It is a guy who is telling a FBI agent everything about the crimes they committed and is told in flashback with a great twist ending. For Paxton's first film as a director, he made a great one. EIGHT STARS!
