The defendant was never shown as having committed a crime of passion but was tried for attempted murder of who turned out to be a philandering wife-- a wife who has turned cold because she has found herself a Mr Smith and upon his arrival from a trip did not even hug him until asked to and just replied "I know" when told "I love you.

" You will see how the husband cunningly escapes prosecution despite having executed a sworn statement incriminating himself to the crime. I liked it that they left the ending hanging so I can have my own ending to this picture.
