Review of Fracture (2007) by Arran C — 06 Dec 2009
A legal thriller that's consistent in making you guess what's around the corner. In Fracture, I actually found myself on the edge of my seat.
While the film's plot isn't all that original, Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling play off of each other wonderfully. Hopkins' Ted Crawford is so maliciously evil that it's hilarious. His persistent smiling and taunting of Gosling's character (who he refers to as "Willy") is enough black magic to slap a grin on your face.
Gregory Hoblit doesn't improve that much on directing; Fracture is on par with his future Untraceable, which I saw before this. Still, the tension and suspense that screenwriters Daniel Pyne and Glenn Gers are able to pack into only a 103 minute movie is remarkable.
