Review of Foxcatcher (2014) by Derek N — 30 Mar 2015
To be perfectly honest, I can't get past Steve Carrell's nose. This might be a silly thing to focus on about a film, but is indicative overall of the film. It's just trying too hard to stay within the reality of 'the true story' instead of trusting the script and the performers themselves to sell it.
Under the prosthetics, the performances are solid but all I can see is the fake nose. When the director doesn't have faith in the actors ability to inhabit the character, how is the viewer supposed to get on board?
