Review of Foxcatcher (2014) by Jack B — 13 Apr 2015
Miller's deliberately snail pace direction in this undeniably unsettling True Life Drama will make or break it for most but despite the icy lack of feeling (which is kind of the point), Foxcatcher creepily escalates to its conclusion and once there leaves you stranded in a paranoid, disturbed and rather damaged world of ego, athleticism and family.
Not for everyone but I challenge anyone to deny the power of the central trio, especially Carell, who many may struggle to look at the same again after this sublime performance. Hard to love but still compellingly cold and affectingly ambiguous.
