Review of Foxcatcher (2014) by Shawn O — 10 May 2015
Quite an odd film. The pacing is the main issue. It moves sludgingly along and gets rather confusing. It was easy to tell Carell's character was developing schizophrenia, based off of his unshakable beliefs, his stoic demeanor, and his delusional behavior.
He was phenomenal. Tatum seemed somewhat bored throughout all of this, but that is probably what he was trying to display. Ruffalo was also wonderful. The script was well done, the atmosphere is very disturbing, yet after watching it, I respect it for what it is.
A great character study that has a black, murky heart.
