Review of Foxcatcher (2014) by Netan Y — 21 Feb 2015
At 2 hours and 10 minutes, this movie is 40 minutes too long. Besides that, the story just does not flow, the plot leaves a lot to be desired and there is a clear lack of character development. A good performance by Steve Carell portraying John du Pont, a mentally ill millionaire also suffering from loneliness who decides to sponsor a world class wrestler, is just not enough to save this movie.
Mark Ruffalo and Channing Tatum are decent in their supplementary roles but the story hits a brick wall after about an hour. Throughout the movie, I was hoping that eventually the long and dull scenes where the camera focuses on Carell's face would end and the story would develop.
Unfortunately, that did not happen and I left the cinema with a huge disappointment.
