Review of Foxcatcher (2014) by Cade H — 26 Apr 2015
If you are going to see this movie you cannot, and I repeat cannot look up the true events this film is based on. This movie would be rated much worse if I had known how it ended and all the suspense and lead up would have been ruined.
This movie was very slow paced and just plain boring at times. The one good aspect was the acting from Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo. I left the other main actor Channing Tatum out of that list because his character barely said a word the second half of the movie and all he did was wrestle, act pissed off and smash his head into a mirror.
I did find the story intriguing at times and I just really wanted to know where the plot was going and I knew something major had to happen at some point. Other reviews have claimed this movie was suspenseful and thrilling but it was not.
Maybe right before the final act there was a few minutes of suspense but any movie can do that. I was very disappointed with the overall product here because as far as entertainment this movie came up way short.
It of course was up for awards and got rated high by the so called pro critics but this is just another case of a art type movie that doesn't appeal to the mass public. Interesting story, boring pace, and below average movie.
