Review of Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) by Yudi J — 14 May 2009
When I found out this movie was nominated for Best Picture, I was astounded--clearly it must have been edgy for its time, because 15 years later, it rings like one gigantic rom com cliche. The supporting cast, to their credit, do a fine job, but the chemistry between Grant and MacDowell is so lackluster that it renders the romance completely unbelievable and false.
In fact, MacDowell spends half the movie with a ridiculous smile on her face that successfully irritated me enough to prevent enjoyment. It could have been so much better with a different female lead.
