Review of Four Rooms (1995) by Caleb M — 21 May 2011
3 solid stars for Rodriguez's segment, 2 1/2 for the rest (except 4 stars for Tomei's hilarious cameo!).
While the other segements each have their moments, Rodriguez's The Misbehavers really stands out as something funny and unique. It isn't often you see a comedy starring kids that involves hypodermic needles and porn, much less one that's funny.
Tim Roth's manic performance is wacky enough to be charming, and although his comedic beats seem off, his awkwardness lends itself to the character and comedy. His Ted is an amiable bellhop, and I would love to see him pop up for cameos in other Tarantino/Rodriguez co-productions.
Four Rooms isn't great, but it's a nice little picture with some fun moments, quirky characters and silly slapstick.
