Review of Four Lions (2010) by Tom B — 31 Jan 2011
Four Lions is a refreshingly unique Brit satire comedy. The story is funny and slapstick, raw and unpretentious. It is fine comedy, well acted, well shot and an enjoyable watch. Those that stumble simply upon this or those looking for an 'In the Loop' / Ali G style comedy will benefit the most. Chris Morris (the director) has sound credentials being involved in Brass Eye and The Day Today.
The subject matter is wacky, silly and it does well to make something potentially serious amusing. The film follows the antics of jihadists building up to become suicide bombers. But, in reality it is four clueless idiots with misled dreams, in . It is nice to see something containing Muslims that isn't really negative or stereotyping รข" even if these Muslims aren't anything remotely heroic.
Overall, superb and refreshingly unique Brit satire comedy. Four out of Four...Lions.
