Review of Four Lions (2010) by Tyrone H — 04 Apr 2011
You have to hand it to Chris Morris. The man has cojones the size of melons. Who'd even believe that a comedy about a terrorist cell of suicide bombers could be funny, and you can't help but laugh even though you probably shouldn't.
After all it's only funny becuase it's true. Maybe comedy is is not the right title for something so darkly satirical. What is worrying is that the views and beliefs of the characters in the story are not as idiotic as some of the views I hear on radio phone in shows on a daily basis.
And it's not just the extremists that come in for stick here. The authorities also get a bashing, especially the anti-terrorist police who manage to shoot two innocent bystanders during the course of the movie.
I was going to say that this was typically British but of course, the film only topped by Matt and Trey Parker and the hilarious Team America. If you are seeing this on DVD it is worth watching the short film following four asian lads around the town in which the film is set.
It's quite an eye opener. There is only one way to defeat the idiotic beliefs held by these people and that is to expose them to daylight so we can all see how ridiculous they really are...well done Chris Morris.
Can't wait to see what you do next.
