Flows between bitterly funny and depressingly dark, often at the same time, but never stoops to levels of disrespect or pure shock. A bit strange to see a terrorist attack on a marathon two years before it would be considered in poor taste, but that's movies for you.

Also, the moment where the guy explodes on the sheep was one of the funniest moment I've seen in a film in a long time.
