Review of Four Lions (2010) by Michael L — 29 Jan 2011
Chris Morris nails a consistently confrontational and funny script of a bunch of Britsh second/ third generation Pakistanis and the white guy from Sheffield who aspire to be suicide bombers. This film was long overdue.
The best way of dealing with terrorism is to laugh at it, satirise it or just be dismissive and realise these kids are basically idiots and unrepresentative. Top performances by all, from the manipulative to the idiotic, great set pieces and no cop out ending either with all the pathos of an exploding TMNT being rescued with the himlich manoeuvre.
Dogs contradict Islam, let's bomb the mosque, the Jews invented spark plugs to regulate traffic. Morris' best work since the trust-me-trousers.
