Review of Four Days in September (1997) by Antti R — 09 Nov 2008
With Fernando Gabeira in the news lately (he was very nearly elected mayor of Rio de Janeiro), it was high time to see this film. It is a film whose value lies largely in its interesting ethical questions and a fairly captivating narrative. This said, it is typical of a Bruno Barreto, somewhat artless and glossy but with some decent acting.
As people said, the dictatorship came into power on the night of March 31-April 1, 1964. The film covers events following the protests of 1968 and AI-5, a set of laws that severely curtailed the already limited civil liberties of Brazilians.
