Review of Four Christmases (2008) by Raymond B — 04 Dec 2010
This film is probably one of the worst Christmas movies I have ever seen. It starts off rocky with Witherspoon and Vaughn's unbelievable relationship and it just dive bombs from there. The most painful moments are in the first half when the couple has to visit their four families.
Each family is ridiculously over-the-top, and the attempted laughs that come from the dysfunctional families are either painfully predictable or completely absurd. I was filled with dread every time they visited a new family because I didn't want to know what cliche-ridden idiotic situation would pop up next.
After the visits, the movie gets a little better when Witherspoon and Vaughn start having relationship problems. The movie stops trying so hard to make you laugh, and instead exposes us to one-dimensional characters that you couldn't care less about.
The cherry on top is at the end where Vince Vaughn tries to save the movie by doing that rant thing he does in every single one of his comedies. Avoid "Four Christmases" at all costs! It is a painful experience.
