Review of Four Brothers (2005) by Kimmo N — 22 Feb 2009

Not sure why I liked this movie but I did. The script seemed as if it was written by a high school student and was so bad at times it was lol funny. The character development was extremely shallow. The four brothers were thugs kept by their foster mother because they were unadoptable.

After she is slain they reunite to beat up and kill anyone associated with the murder. It's over the top in a "Next of Kin" sort of way. Though they have few redeeming qualities they are somehow almost likable particularly because the rest of the characters in the movie aside from one cop, are even more despicable.

Their twisted "family values" are nearly touching at times. In fact at one point for half a second I considered crying. The movie doesn't bother with a plot other than as an excuse for a string of violent scenes, though it is not particularly gory.

In fact the lack of blood is surprising since violence/action seems to be the only goal of the movie. Luckily for the brothers the town gives them carte blanche to do anything they choose so there are no disruptions in their attacks.

I don't particularly like action or thug movies but for some reason I found this one to be one of the most entertaining I've seen. So if you like pointless violent movies this one is sure to please.
