Review of Four Brothers (2005) by Thomas T — 29 Jul 2010
This movie could have been ALOT better if it was just completley re-made, I feel instead of focusing so much on the investigation of their mother, it could have shown more depth on the brothers, like what their childhoods were like and how they got to where they were and why they were so split up at the beginning, it says they were troubled kids, but thats about it, it never goes in specifics on the trouble they were implicated in.
But the performances were believable, Wahlberg delivers a great performance of a hardened ex-thug, newcomer Andre Benjamin is believable enough for a first timer, Gibson is good as a charming brother and Hedlund gives all the female attention with his good looks and sensitivity.
Basically, the script needs polishing, the direction is good (if it's John Singleton then it's good), but the quality of the film hinges directly on the fine performances.
