Review of Forty Guns (1957) by Nate A — 15 Jun 2008
All of the touches one comes to expect from Fuller - extreme violence, unsubtle psychology, in-your-face directorial flourishes, wooden but amusing acting/dialogue. Some of the scenes are so good that I can't help liking the film, despite some of the flaws.
It's extremely well-photographed, quirky, amusing, and extreme for a '50s Western. The typical love story is hilariously subverted by the protagonist's shooting of the love interest, which ends with them riding off into the sunset anyway.
