Review of Fortress (1992) by Ian M — 29 Jun 2007
This is one of Lambert's best, but that isn't saying much. As for the film itself, pretty weak. But this time, only because of the script and acting and Lambert.
C-Lamb starts the film off by breaking the law, assaulting three officers, then tries to play the martyr card when he's sent to prison. Yeah, sorry, somehow I don't feel too bad for you. Anyway this prison is supposedly the most cruel and secure thing ever, but within a few minutes you notice it's really not. There are no guards, this one wall-mounted camera looks at you every 20 minutes.. "Work" means hanging around a rock pit with forty of your buddies.. Oh and get this, Lambert can SEE HIS WIFE on the floor above his. Come on.
Anyway the movie is pretty cliche, but not unwatchable. In the end Lambert looks totally ridiculous with this giant Rambo-gun in his scrawny, pale arms (I gaurantee you Stallone was who the writers had in mind), and the prison's computer turns into a dump truck that drives around trying to abort Lambert's baby. I'm not joking. Also, literally every other person in the movie, even his friends who helped him escape, are killed by Lambert's negligence. It just makes you hate his character. In conclusion.. It's better than "Beowulf".
