Review of Fort Apache (1948) by Grant S — 30 Dec 2009
What a film! Henry Fonda plays a very ambitious new commander who butts heads with a lower-level officer played by John Wayne, who nevertheless obeys his commander (along with the other men). The film is quite anti-war and is shockingly relevant even today.
It's also surprisingly funny in parts too. Fonda and Wayne are terrific. And Shirley Temple's in it too in one of her last roles. John Ford's direction is brilliant.
