Review of Forrest Gump (1994) by Bradley W — 28 Feb 2015
Forrest Gump is a brilliant drama that tells the story of a simple minded man who achieved great things. Robert Zemeckis provides a real film with great references to big moments throughout the 20th Century, which is fun for the hsitory lover and people who don't know much about it.
Tom Hanks gives what is the most iconic and beloved performance in his career, one that has stood the test of time and is one of the main reasons for this films continuing success. He makes Forrest Gump into a slow-witted yet lovable man that is hopelessly in love with Jenny, hisclosest friend since childhood, played by Robin Wright.
We see Forrest achieve many great things, including winning the Medal of Honor, running a three year coast-to-coast marathon & even becoming ping pong champion of the world. But what we see is his constant good influence on those around him, and how his love and friendship help many people.
Such as with Jenny, who becomes a very lost soul who finds hope in a love for Forrest. Also with Forrest's platoon leader Lieutenant Dan, played by Gary Sinise. Forrest just goes with the flow in life and always made the best of it, never letting anything bring down his spirits.
He didn't have a plan in life, which is what was different from Dan. He had his destiny decided, and thanks to Forrest destroying that destiny he had eventually found his way in life. Its a kind drama that loves to please the audience, but there is nothing wrong with some good uplifting entertainment.
Forrest Gump is a beautiful and funny drama that has stood the test of time due to its inspirational themes, great directing and Hanks brilliant performance. If you haven't seen this film, have you been living under a rock?
