Review of Forrest Gump (1994) by Evan B — 26 Aug 2013
Almost twenty years after its release, much of the critical acclaim seems to have vanished, instead being replaced with an eye-rolling disapproval towards its admittedly overwhelming sentimentality. But frankly, this film suffers nothing from its tendency to play in its audience's emotions.
The director, writers, actors and music, are all on top form; its morals are simple yet profoundly important; and it will probably always remain the most poignant, endearingly touching movie I have ever seen.
There's an abundance of "try not to cry" moments, and the final ten minutes leave me with the most stinging heartache every time. But 'Forrest Gump' has the ability not just to enthral, but to entirely wedge itself into the heart of any person that is willing to allow it.
One of the greatest, most beautiful films of our time.
