Review of Formula 17 (2004) by Bara M — 15 Feb 2006
Chu~~ lots of good movies/TV today (I watched both Memento and Formula 17, as well as the last few episodes of the anime "Ippatsu Kikimusume" and a whole whack of se7en PVs. Schoolwork?).

Wow, sad times for me! What a disappointment this film was! I was so excited to see another Zhang Yimou film, and this did start off well enough. I would have LOVED to see a movie about two guys running a bus-hotel thing, but the main character was too stuck in the mud to be cool. So instead, we got some not-as-interesting movie about his relationship with a blind girl Ebert describes as "creepy". I wouldn't go THAT far, but it certainly wasn't normal in any way at all.
I must mention that this has the best foreshadowing I've EVER seen in a movie. I totally didn't see it coming (and I should have). Oh well, I still have hope for Shower.
:fresh: Memento.
WOW, why haven't I seen this movie sooner? It is so good! I kinda got a headache trying to remember eveything that happened since it WAS going backwards, but damn, the ending makes up for any headache. What an amazing film.
...and now, we ruin the reputation of my journal one more time, by giving a 9/10 to a highly respected movie, and giving 10/10 toooooo...

...the most disposable piece of movie ever. But when the first shot came on the screen, I said out loud (to myself) "This is the Best Movie Ever", and that was it. If the opening scene doesn't win you over, then you won't like this movie. It's really funny and cute, and totally pwnz Yi Yi.
