Review of Forks Over Knives (2011) by Amilcar A — 21 May 2011
I fully understand why conservatives get exasperated with liberals. We repeat some of the same stuff over and over - just like religious nuts do. Albeit no magic men or scrolls and far worse battles.
FOK is your classic liberal patronizing documentary where we are told that some things are good and others are bad. We get it. Eating well is important and eating poorly makes you fat and probably a Texan.
Even then, people need to make their own choices and education can come without the paternalism. This is particularly important since the people that will watch films like this one already know this shit.
FOK is nothing new but it takes a slightly different stance. It's not as focused on the evils of capitalism (though it does jab a few times) but rather emphasizes on eating lots of fruits and veggies. And a lot less tasty delicious meat.
I suppose that by this point we all know meat is not very good for you. Sadly it tastes great. Particularly fried and with loads of rich sauces.
Whatever. The idea is that this movie is very well made, educational and also a bit irresponsible. No woman with breast cancer should forgo medical treatment and try to get cured with diet.
While better than most of what's in theaters right now, not good enough for most to see. Even the fatties that need it most.
