Review of Forks Over Knives (2011) by Edwin P — 22 Sep 2012
This documentary "examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting animal-based and processed foods.".
This is a film that everyone should see. For the most part, a majority of the claims presented have already been made in literary form before (i.e. "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell for one). But in digesting it into a 90-minute documentary, it makes for a very straightforward yet profound viewing. It certainly makes its case about the benefits of whole foods, plant based diet.
If many can just incorporate a balanced diet that includes plant based foods, imagine what it can do to one's health and even improve our overall health care cost structure. I especially like the segment on overmedicating ourselves to make us better instead of trying some of the alternative methods presented here.
Years ago having been on a cholesterol reducing drug regiment, I decided I was not going to be married to that drug for the rest of my life with a simple lifestyle change on the foods that I eat. With knowledge comes power. And "Forks Over Knives" arms us with that knowledge and choice for a healthier life to do more of what we love to do to those who we love doing it with.
