Review of Forks Over Knives (2011) by Louie L — 16 Jul 2012
Forks Over Knives is one of the latest documentaries to hit the big screen about our broken food system and ways humans should change their diets. This movie has a unique spin on the local food movement.
Documentary filmmaker Lee Fulkerson, has high cholesterol and must change his lifestyle before his health declines into oblivion. He explores the benefits of eating solely a plant based and whole foods diet. No chicken. No hamburgers. No dairy products. Western peoples believe that in order to obtain enough protein, animal meat must be eaten. While many of you think veganism is a crazy way to live, Forks Over Knives cited substantial research from Dr.T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn that states a plant-based diet can help people lose weight and in many cases, reverse the effects of cancer.
Forks Over Knives follows Lee Fulkerson as he tries to only eat what was grown in the ground. By the end of the movie, Fulkerson lost nearly 20 pounds, and decreased his cholesterol by 30 points.
This was a great movie for me to see because I am a meat eater. For years I always believed that I had to eat meat in order to be healthy and get the right amount of protein. However, Forks Over Knives opened my eyes to other possibilities and a lot of tasty looking recipes that are meat free. I highly recommend this movie if you want to decide for yourself if a plant-based diet is right for you.
