Review of Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) by Adam F — 18 Feb 2014
"Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is the perfect blend of raunchy and romantic comedy. The characters are genuine, believable (though some are quite exaggerated) and three dimensional in their own way.
What's best about the film is the chemistry between the characters. You can see why Peter (Jason Segel) and Sarah (Kristen Bell) used to be together, why they fell apart and why he wants to forget her.
When Peter and Rachael (Mila Kunis) meet there's genuine attraction between the two and even between Peter and his nemesis, Sarah's new boyfriend Aldous Snow (Russell brand) you can see that under different circumstances, the two guys would be friends.
You feel for the people here because there are a lot of good moments of character development. You see how Peter, while at a decent job feels frustrated by the lack of creativity that's expected from him and you get some real satisfaction when he gets off the couch and starts pulling himself together writting a musical that's really funny.
You get some good parodies of pop singers and crime shows, some raunchy comedy (but not too raunchy) and a constant flow of jokes. The cast members are all well used and fill their roles perfectly. It's hilarious, whether you're watching by yourself or with your significant other and if you needed another reason to rent it, it's got an extended sequence at the end that features puppets you won't want to miss.
