Review of Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) by Carlos R — 18 Sep 2011
It contains all the ingredients of an excellent romantic comedy, and in this genre, this has to be one of the best in the past 20 years at least. Very funny without being either vulgar or offensive, despite some "crude" comedy moments. But this miraculously works really good. Very quick story-telling, a smart script and a skilled direction by Nicholas Stoller.
Jason Segel along with the adorable Mila Kunis owned this film. But they were not alone in this department. because Kristen Bell and Russell Brand also had their bright moments, and Brand's character delivered some of the most hilarious lines.
Amazing dialogues and above all, a sense of realism that took me by surprise. I was completely delighted by this beautiful comedy. There were several predictable sub-plots, but however the film still managed to be charming and funny, scene after scene. I wish all rom-com these days were this good.
Segel was superb and I consider his performance in this film to be one of the funniest and best I've seen in this genre. This guy definitely should get more starring roles. Mila Kunis stole my heart in this picture too. She was stunning.
At the film's end credits, I was amazed watching Judd Apatow's name in the list of producers. That guy directed "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up", two of the best comedies of the past decade, and besides that, he produced this other little jewel. So many directors should learn from this guy of how to make really good comedy nowadays.
