Review of Forever Strong (2008) by Cullen L — 24 Dec 2008
I need to qualify my bias up front, as a former rugby player and coach and a current rugby referee this was mandatory viewing. That being said, I think the actors did a great job of portraying real events that happened outside the sport, especially the two coaches. The father and typical American megalomaniac, "win at all costs" coach was phenomenal, as was the subdued but brilliant Highland coach. Also, I think the rugby players and the rest did excellent jobs conveying difficult personal crises that happen to every high school student, whether or not they are athletes.
As a father of a teen I recommend this movie to anyone who has a teen in their life, regardless of how you feel about rugby, which, by the way, was well displayed in the movie, also. Forever Strong may not be in full release, yet (not sure how Hollywood does these things but I think I saw it in limited release a couple months ago), but hopefully they will get it out there soon so we can all enjoy it. Well done.
Sincerely,.
