Do not listen to the cynical politicized critiques. Other commenters already said everything.
If it isn't politicized and depressing, they won't like it.
If it talks about spirituality, redemption, family and community, they won't like it.
There is a love story, but this movie is about correcting past mistakes and learn again how to live.
The scenes with the father are just as deep and tear-jerking as the scenes with the daughter, and the scenes with the ex-fiancée.
