Review of Forbidden Zone (1982) by Brian Z — 12 Nov 2007
After hearing about it for three years, I finally tracked down a copy. It's most definitely not for everyone; a topless harem in mickey mouse ears, a drug dealer in bad blackface and a giant frog humping anyone he can...it's far and away one of my faves. Sick, twisted, completely out there. Oh, and it's a musical, too.
The score is Danny Elfman's first foray into film, and for my money, some of his best stuff. You can see FZ influences in Tim Burton's later work, and reflected in the accompanying music.
