Review of Forbidden Planet (1956) by Dave K — 17 Jul 2008
This movie kicks tons of ass. It's got cool sci-fi shit in it, a badass young Leslie Nielsen, a badass old-ish Walter Pidgeon, Robby the Robot, and a mysterious invisible monster force attacking and killing off member of Nielsen's crew. The sets and matte paintings, as advertised by the trailer as "PHOTOGRAPHED IN STRIKING EASTMAN COLOR" are indeed strikingly colorful and sick looking.
There's just so much great shit in here, the core of the planet housing reactors producing energy equivalent to the harnessed power of a thousand exploding suns, all that shit.... and its all put behind one man with an advanced-brain's monstrous id. A sick concept that is still interesting today.
