Review of Forbidden Planet (1956) by Nyk P — 03 Apr 2009
Even if, like with most old sci-fi films, the spaceship technology here makes this movie dated right away, true imagination is timeless. The alien technology is so wildly creative, and even the overall plot is something I've never seen anything like before.
All of the characters are believable, but Robby the Robot is the greatest, so cool. Also, by making the alien/monster more or less invisible, it's a lot more frightening and greatly adds to the level of suspense throughout the movie.
It's just a shame that the payoff at the end doesn't live up to the rest of the film, as I couldn't bring myself to take it seriously. I think I understand what they were going for, and it's an intriguing idea, but one that never should have made it past the drawing board.
