Review of Forbidden Planet (1956) by Andrew G — 28 Jan 2012
It's like a really good, really long episode of Star Trek. Yeah, I think that's the best way to sum it up. The effects are impressive for the time and some parts had really good tension. the soundtrack is odd with constant buzzing and whirring throughout the film, you'd think that it would get grating after a while, but it really puts you in that 1950's mindset on some distant deserted planet.
Even if you've never seen a 50's sci-fi movie, you know the feeling, like a combination of nostalgia and intrigue. That's one of the reasons I love 50's sci-fi and I suspect the same for many others.
another reason to see this movie is that the ship captain is played by none other than Leslie Nielsen (surely I can't be serious).
