Review of Forbidden Planet (1956) by Cody Y — 29 Jul 2012
This is a 50's sci-fi flick that surpasses the regular B and Z-movies that sprung out of the genre during that time. Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' set on a far away planet, filled with absolutely phenomenal special effects and with Freudian elements added in, this is one of the smartest science fiction movies to predate later sci-fi achievements, like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner.
