Review of Forbidden Planet (1956) by Leonard D — 02 Jul 2016
I have nothing bad to say about this film. Going in, I was expecting to see one of the classic sci fi stories from way back, but I didn't expect to actually get into it as much as I did. The acting is actually quite good, with an awesome Leslie Nielsen performance that nearly reaches the heights of James T. Kirk, as well as production design that's...dare I say, "OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!".
The story itself is also really interesting and intelligent, taking inspiration from Shakespeare, as well as some hints from Lovecraft.
Forbidden Planet is one of my new favorites. Great, pre-Star Wars effects combined with an equally great story makes for a real classic in Science Fiction film.
