Review of For Your Eyes Only (1981) by Paul P — 31 Dec 2010
Probably one of the better of the Roger Moore era, but with flaws. Bill Conti's score is somewhat jarring compared to John Barry's work and the opening is pretty silly, to name a couple. The rest of this one however is mostly exciting with a lot of fun and invention, despite a rather thin plot.
It's really a constant chase. With some of the most fun action of the era and the great locations this is one of the Bonds surely worth the time for any Bond fan. It has one more downside, however, the villains.
They're a rather boring lot. I struggle to remember any of them except for one of which (and barely) and I re-watched this one just days ago. It's just one of those things that isn't welcome in a Bond adventure.
.. you have to have great villain(s). Still, despite its flaws, I find myself enjoying it whenever I watch it but I don't agree with those who feel this is the best of the Roger Moore Bond's just because it's a little more serious and down to Earth.
