Review of For Your Eyes Only (1981) by Cal ( — 14 Nov 2007
James Bond (Moore) returns from the abysmal death of Bond that was 'Moonraker' with a vengeance. 'For Your Eyes Only' is a truly classic Bond-buster featuring excellent stunt work, action and fantastic cinematography.
This time Bond is investigating the sinking of a British command ship, which was carrying a very important hi-tech encryption device. Bond's task is to recover the device to ensure that it doesn't fall into Soviet hands.
After the device is seized by anonymous enemies, Bond suspects the suave character Kristatos (Glover) of stealing it. As the rivalry between the two characters rise, Bond meets a beautiful ally named Melina (Bouquet), who wants revenge after her parents were murdered by the same people who stole the hi-tech device.
The result is pure escapism! Moore reprises his formidable role as James Bond, and Julian Glover makes a great and nefarious villain. The first Bond film to use blank firing weapons.
