Review of For Your Eyes Only (1981) by Todd A — 03 Nov 2012
And here is where the Roger Moore's era, comes to an abruptly end.... Well just a matter of POV, but Roger Moore will continue to reprising James Bond in 2 more movies until his retirement from the franchise!!!!!!
After high and lows from this Bond franchise era, 2 goods and 2 bad movies, it was necessarily to put 007 against the real enemies at the time..... Russians. Since it was critical time at the moment because WWIII was going to get started, it was necessary to do something with Bond enemies and what better way than just putting him against the classic ones.
Based on a short story from the same novel, For Your Eyes Only, in some way takes just the premise of the first 10 minutes to setup the theme of the whole movie, vengeance and double cross which will continue in some way in another Bond movies with Dalton, Brosnan and Craig, later in the franchise.
Here at this point we see a more serious Bond doing his job and focusing on what his doing best outsmarting the bad guys in anyway he can, if is taking out the man who cause the death of his only wife or in the Swiss alps skiing like a pro while taking out the hit men without guns, which for my surprise is amazing. And the same time bring us memories of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which is the only Bond movie that he doesn't have or use Q gadgets to take out the bad guys!
Highly recommendable for those who want to watch a the last good Bond movie ever made by Moore before retiring!
