Review of For Your Consideration (2006) by Matthew R — 27 Dec 2007
Christopher Guest hits the mark again with his trademark brand of improvisational comedy. This time he tackles the anticipation and buzz surrounding the potentially Oscar nominated film, Home for Purim.
He captures envy and the fragility of actors' egos during the awards season. As with all of his films following Waiting for Guffman, the outstanding cast is what makes the film subtle, delightful, gentle and charming.
Catherine O'Hara, Parker Posey and in particular John Michael Higgins are all magnificently funny. Ricky Gervais is the latest addition to the gifted cast and is certainly a stand out character; this is easily his finest performance in a feature film to date as he manages to blend in seamlessly with indisputably the greatest comedic ensemble working today.
