Review of For Your Consideration (2006) by Elaine G — 31 Jan 2009
Not as solid as some previous work (A Mighty Wind, Waiting for Guffman, and Spinal Tap- of course) but a good offering from Christopher Guest. The cast carries off their parts well, it just feels like everyone was a little dry during filming.
The typically sharp ad-libbing is a rather labored and it feels like chemistry wasn't always as spot on as in the past. That being said, there are definitely some jokes in this one that cracked me up, and the over-acting tendencies of the stars of "Home for Purim" are well worthwhile.
Though little comes of it Ricky Gervais' performance adds a nice light to this film, also. The mock up hollywood gossip show is probably the brightest aspect of this film, as are the exchanges with the writers.
Though not Oscar worthy this film pokes fun at that trophy-focused branch of Hollywood with some enjoyable skill and humor.
