Review of For Your Consideration (2006) by Tim G — 01 Mar 2010
Perhaps this should have been called "Shooting fish in a barrel". It's a pretty obvious subject for satire, but perhaps because of its familiarity through countless gossip sites, channels and mags, this tends not to be as interesting as Christopher Guest's other (usually excellent) films.
Too often it seems to resort to grotesque caricature to make a point, when in fact the offhand lines and exchanges are usually the best. Eugene Levy is excellent as the slippery agent, while the Hollywood TV anchors are laugh-out-loud insane.
I'm sure that he's showing us a good deal of truth, but it feels so familiar that it's less surprising and compelling than (say) Best In Show.
