Review of For the Bible Tells Me So (2007) by Simon W — 04 May 2008
This is a beautiful and touching movie. But I find it difficult to understand the need to legitimize homosexuality on a theological basis. The problem is not that people interpret the bible incorrectly, but that people accept that scripture and the authority of others should dictate how they live and what they think.
The tragedy is not that homophobia exists (there will always be hatred), but that loving and kind parents are convinced to reject their own children. The only way that can happen is when people stop thinking for themselves and accept the word of an imperfect book.
This movie ultimately does not change that.
