Review of For the Bible Tells Me So (2007) by Andy R — 17 Jul 2011
Wow. I saw this on Netflix Instant Queue and was seriously moved.
This is a documentary that looks at homosexuality in America. It is well-paced with numerous parallel stories/interviews of homosexuals and their families, as well as how their churches played a role in their background and upbringing. If this is an issue you've been wanting to understand more I *highly* recommend this film. Although it paints an ugly picture of fundamentalist Christians (rightly so, in my opinion), it is not seeking to bash God or the church. This movie simply brings awareness to the suffering so many homosexuals experience and the difficulty that families face as they cope with and come to accept their homosexual members.
More than affecting my beliefs or where I stand on the issue, this film stirred up a greater sense of sympathy and understanding for homosexuals and the struggles they experience, especially as Christians. I think this is a great film to present in a college setting and I imagine it being used for psychology/sexuality courses nationwide. Check it out.
