Review of For a Few Dollars More (1965) by Tom T — 14 Jan 2011
Not quite as good as A Fistful Of Dollars but still a very good watch, For A few Dollars More sees Clint Eastwood return as the man with no name. Making his debut in the Dollars trilogy is Lee Van Cleef, playing a sharp shooting Colonel who goes bounty hunting while away from the army.
As too does Eastwood's character, until the two join forces to bring down a volatile bandit named El Indio whose just escaped from prison. Just like its predecessor this film is awesome and cool, and goes deeper into the characterization and backstories of the characters.
The only thing that lets it down ever so slightly is probably the partnership of Van Cleef's and Eastwood's characters as they are two different sides of the same coin; both wanting the same thing but for a different reason.
But as I say only ever so slightly. Sergio Leone has done it again with another gripping and stylish western which strengthens the Dollars trilogy. Eastwood, Van Cleef, and Gian Maria Volente all deliver good performances and make a quality ending when everything is explained and comes to a head.
